Started doing monthly updates, just to round up the month. You can read my January post here. I didn’t really get up to much this month, with that being said here’s what I did do.
Music
I came across Ari Lennox on Spotify (thankyou Spotify) and to say I’m now obsessed is an understatement. I love the whole PHO album.
Also H.E.R Volume 1 album is sick! She’s giving me female drake vibes, real chilled music with smooth, rnb feeling vocals from H.E.R.
Andddddd…. Dreezy ft. T-Pain – Close To You, Floetry – Fun, Syd – Smile More & Hiatus Kaiyote ft. Q.Tip – Nakamarra are chunes!!
Family
During the month of February there was a lot talk about improving my life as well as my mum speaking about bettering herself. I’m so glad my family are on the same journey as me. It makes it ten times easier to talk about self care and self development.
Black Skin, White Masks
I tired to read ‘Black Skin, White Masks’ by Frantz Fanon, but boi. I did a little video on my instagram story about this book yesterday.
I was really excited to read this book, but I didn’t expect it to be so “wordy”. There’s a lot of words and terms used in this book that I did not understand.
From what I do understand, this book speaks about black people and assimilation. Hence the title, black skin, white masks. I’m assuming it will look at the ways black people have dismissed their blackness in order to survive and succeed. Really interesting topic. I will let you know how I get on with this book soon.
Birthday Celebrations
My friends birthday was on Valentine’s day, which fell on a Tuesday (boooo) so we went out the Saturday before for some drinks. Obviously we went to the pub for some pre-drinks and the tequila shots just kept on coming. We all know we shouldn’t mix our drinks right? But after two shots that rule goes out of the window🙈. Ended up in O’Neil’s dancing to the rubbish music. The music is very cheesy and commercial, however, we made the best of it and worked the dance floor. It was so a really good night. The next day I enjoyed a lovely roast dinner at the birthday girls house with her family and friends💕
