Last year I did a last minute BHM series: #BHMWithSaabirah. I shared a selection of posts dedicated to the black experience. You can read all of last year’s and this years Black History Month content here.
F.U.B.U – For Us, By Us
As last year I shared my favourite black owned hair care products, I thought I would continue the theme of supporting black owned businesses and share some of my favourite beauty and skin care products, alongside some new finds.
Skin Care
I was introduced to the brand and owner Mahawa at The Fempire Collective’s Self Care & Sisterhood Pyjama Party.
I bought their cleansing oil, lavender whipped shea scrub, and was gifted their serum.
After using all three products together my favourite became the shea butter whip. It leaves my skin smooth and moisturised, I love the glow it gives me. I have also tried the lemongrass scent and this is the one that reduces the size of my pores. I have quite large pores and a few dark marks on my face and have found that the Lemongrass has helped yo brighten my face , making my dark marks less prominent.
Discovered this brand last year at the Curly Treats Festival and brought their Aloe Facial Toner.
I know aloe vera works wonders for skin so I knew it would be perfect for me. This year I went back to Curly Treats Festival and bought another and their Skin Fix Facial moisturiser. Combining The Soap Connoisseur Lemongrass Shea Scrub, Pure Goodness Toner & moisturiser is the ultimate combination for soft, moisturised, healthy skin. I love simple, organic skin care, no irritation, fuss or problems it just gets the job done.
After starting her former business Relevant Waffle, Latticia decided to rebrand come back something new. She launched her new vegan lifestyle brand – Latticia Organics in July. Combining her love for product making and her skin care knowledge, she created her first product Whipped Shea Soufflé. Which as been featured on the BBC and inside Stylist Magazine.
So far my skin is loving it, it’s the right amount of moisture without leaving my already oily skin, even more oily. The smell is so therapeutic. These three skin care products combined are perfect together.
Black Beauty
Earlier this year I tried Mo Mineral Makeup for the first time. You can read my review here. As I don’t wear much makeup, this was a great range of products for me. I prefer the no make up, make up look. The fine powder the foundation is made of gives me an almost airbrushed look, it feels really light as well.
Created for women of Colour, award winning brand Color Blend sent me their Lipstick in the shade ‘Queenie’. Queenie is a cherry red shade perfect for autumn. I loved their foundation as well, I will definitely be purchasing some beauty products from Color Blend. Below you can see Queenie.
